The Pirate Duck Story
Pirate Duck Designs (PDD) is, a labor of love, and a place where unique pieces of furniture come to life. While PDD is currently focused primarily on furniture, they aim to become an eclectic design house for all needful things. PDD’s goal is to provide their customers with unique and affordable furniture. (Affordable, while not being mass produced.) PDD also believes in making furniture that is multi-faceted and tailored for urban homes.
PDD is the brainchild of Mohit Mankar, the founder and CEO. Mohit is often asked “How did you come up with the name “Pirate Duck Designs’?” Well, here’s how that story goes…
… Once upon a time, Mohit and Fatima went on a date. At said date, while Mohit was on a popcorn-procuring mission, Fatima asked Mohit for a dollar and went to play one of those impossible to win, snag-a-toy games. Not only did Fatima win…she won 5 items! One of those was a rubber duck with a pirate’s eye-patch. Fatima is now Mohit’s better half. And three years ago, when Mohit was wondering what to name his new venture, his eye fell on the rubber duck with the eye-patch… The rest as they say, is history.
Mohit has studied architecture, design and manufacturing over the years --- taking courses in NYC at the School of Visual Arts. His decision to leave behind a career in finance and start PDD has been a well thought out one and many years in the making. And that folks, is the origin story of PDD!
